Owner and operator of Barcardia Bars and several other nightspots in Texas and Louisiana, Billy Blatty is an active philanthropist. Over the years, Billy Blatty has raised money for a range of organizations and participated in the annual events for such groups as Animal Rescue New Orleans (ARNO) between 2013 and 2018 and a Bulldog Rescue Christmas adoption where adopters are matched with loving owners.

Dedicated to rescuing and helping animals in New Orleans, Louisiana, who are homeless or abandoned, ARNO is a grassroots volunteer organization. Individuals who love helping animals can volunteer with the organization as long as they are at least 14 years old. However, the age of volunteers does limit their scheduling times. All individuals who are 14 years old are only scheduled between 2:00 and 5:00 pm and must have a guardian or parent with them. The time limit stays the same for volunteers that are 15 and 16, but these individuals only need parents permission to volunteer. Meanwhile, by the age of 17, individuals can volunteer at any time as long as it’s before 6:00 pm.
People who wish to volunteer with ARNO must fill out a volunteer application online. This application is responded to within 12 hours of being submitted. Accepted volunteers are given information about their daily schedule and the duties they are responsible for by ARNO’s volunteer coordinator. These responsibilities include doing laundry, mopping, light housekeeping, and cleaning dog and cat pens. Once scheduled, the organization asks that all volunteers arrive on time and let the organization know ahead of time if they cannot make it on a particular day.
